In the world of Abby and her trio of delightful Devon Rex cats, every moment is an opportunity for playful mischief and furrendship. As a dedicated cat lover and a creative force behind captivating cat videos, Abby’s life is a melody of meows, treats, and purrfect captures. With her keen eye for photography and a husband whose music adds a magical touch, their collaborative journey through the world of charming cat content is nothing short of enchanting.

This week, we have the pleasure of sitting down with Abby to explore her creative path, the motivations driving her engaging video productions, and the captivating world of Devon Rex cats.

Tell us about you

I’ve always loved cats and spent a few years as a volunteer at a cats-only rescue shelter. I have a particular affinity for Devon Rex cats as I find them to be so smart, affectionate, and filled with personality — and look at how cute they are! I’m a photographer and videographer, and my husband is a musician, so it seemed natural for us to collaborate on making fun cat videos with original music.

How did you start creating social media content for your cats?

I got my start way back in 2006 when I created a cat blog. Back then, it was mostly longer stories told from my cat’s point of view, accompanied with photos — not much video content back in the day. I found that I really loved the pet community because it was so friendly and supportive. Years later, I eventually felt that the blog had run its course as newer social media platforms emerged, so I retired the blog and moved on to those other social apps.

Tell us about your three adorable Devon Rex cats

The Devon Rex cat breed has only been around since 1959 and came about due to a natural mutation that resulted in the curly coat the breed is known for. All Devon Rex cats are descendants of this original cat named Kirlee.

Devon Rex cats are easy to care for, and best of all, the curly coat is almost non-shedding. While the coat requires minimal grooming, these cats need lots of love, attention as well as playtime to keep their active minds engaged. My cat Tangerine is very treat-motivated, which makes it easy to teach her tricks. If you aren’t able to devote your every waking moment to their needs (haha!), they would love the companionship of another cat. Many Devon Rex breeders do have long waiting lists, but you can occasionally find an older Devon Rex available for adoption from a breed rescue group.

What haven’t we asked you about that you wish we had?

One of the big reasons I love being on social media is the opportunity it provides for great bonding time with the cats. It’s so funny that when I grab the camera and head to the “studio,” all three cats come running in, eager for the fun to begin. As long as we’re all having fun, we are all in!
