Furrend = A Story of Stories

By @jun

I’ve had the idea for Furrend in my head for years, mostly because my cats remind me daily that animals are effortlessly magnetic. And one day on Reddit, I ended up in a livestream where 2,000 people were watching a cat nap. A cat. Napping. Something in my brain just… clicked.

People love animals. They care about them. They show them off like priceless heirlooms.

And weirdly, there still wasn’t a place online that treated animal stories and the people behind them with the kind of heart and curiosity they deserve. So we decided to build one.

Furrend started as a simple idea: a space for animals and the people who love, create, rescue, research, and obsess over them. Over time, it grew into something else: a home for stories. Stories from pet parents, wildlife lovers, creators, rescuers, artists, researchers, shelters, historians, scientists, and anyone who has ever paused their day to watch a kitten, a capybara, a street dog, a seal, an otter, or a history-making animal from decades past.

We share everything from the week’s wildest animal news to behind-the-camera creator moments, like when Ethel the OIIA cat’s mom Donna told us Ethel’s adoption story and the challenges her family is facing. We also dive into history and culture, like the long history of Chief Mousers at 10 Downing Street.

Animals show us joy, weirdness, chaos, tenderness, and resilience, and people help us see all of it more clearly.

In our early days, builder communities like Cronos, Base, and Solana helped us get the first version out the door, onboard our earliest creators, and figure out what this little idea wanted to become. Since then, we’ve thrown charity events, featured creators like Marina from Dark Wings Wildlife and Claudia with her miniature horse Buttercup, partnered with pet brands, and even ended up at SXSW talking about all of this with people who love stories as much as we do.

Why animals? Because they make the internet wholesome.

Why creators? Because they show us the world through their eyes.

Why stories? Because they connect people.

Why Furrend? Because all of that matters.

After introducing the first version of Furrend in May 2023, everything grew through community, conversations, and the small, unexpected moments people choose to share with us, in emails, DMs, and everything in between. We’ve welcomed established creators from major YouTube channels, and others who started small, went viral, and discovered a whole new audience.

In spring 2025, we launched Good Furrends of the Week because we love quirky, wonderful animal news and thought you should keep up with the animal world, too. Later, we began running history and research stories to bring forgotten legends back into the light.

Along the way, we’ve tried to do some good through charity events, shelter partnerships, and supporting the people who care for animals every day. And as time went on, we received messages from creators, the funny ones, the chaotic ones, the tech-support “SOS” ones, the ones that arrive exactly when we need them.

Furrend is about good stories and great furrends. That’s what keeps us here, too.
