Meet Eevee and Mulani: Life with Sphynx Cats

Sphynx cats have a reputation for looking otherworldly like tiny gremlins or half-wrapped aliens. The first time I met one in a random room at SFO, I was surprised by how soft and sweet the cat was. Ever since, I’ve been curious about these not-so-fluffy cats. For Crys and JP, that curiosity has turned into daily life with Eevee and Mulani, two bald queens with wildly different personalities. Eevee, the older bambino with short legs and a big attitude, is quick to sass and quicker to scold. Mulani, the younger and needier shadow, chirps, follows, and puts on Oscar-worthy performances at the front door to convince strangers she’s neglected. They’re fuzzy on the inside, loud, affectionate, and completely irresistible. And I got to talk to Crys about her drama queens and everything sphynx.

Meet the bald queens

Eevee and Mulani are my little bald queens and the heart of my home! I found them through a reputable sphynx breeder after doing way too much research (and falling down a few hairless cat rabbit holes). I was living alone at the time and knew I needed a companion.

Eevee is my first sphynx, born September 25th, 2020. She was brought home in January 2021. She's sassy, independent, and full of attitude(you can see it in her face). She isn't afraid to tell you off either! Eevee is actually a sphynx bambino, which essentially means she has shorter legs than a standard sphynx. Mulani is the newer addition, born June 5th, 2023, brought home in November 2023, and is the complete opposite; she is a standard sphynx and is super dependent. She will not leave us alone for 5 minutes. Everywhere we go, she's there. We call her our "little shadow". She's extremely talkative too, but she doesn't necessarily meow, it's more like a chirping sound lol. She also loves to cry at the front door, letting people believe that we are starving her, or neglecting her. She is super dramatic that way.

As for myself, my name is Crys, cat mom to Eevee and Mulani. My partner JP is their cat dad! Both JP and I manage their page and create content. I was born and raised in New York City, and JP is from Philly. We all live in Philly now, just a city family :) I am 26, I work a full time job as an Optometric technician, hoping one day I can fully cater my time to my family.

Why sphynx?

I have always been intrigued by weird looking things, especially animals. Not in a "ew" way, more like an "aww" way. Funny enough, I've always been a dog-person more than a cat-person. But as I grew older, my body changed and I am extremely not allergic to dogs. Nonetheless, sphynx cats are so unique-looking. But once I started learning more about their personalities, I was hooked. They're basically little gremlins, and I've always been obsessed with Gizmo.

The high-maintenance myth

Eevee and Mulani are the most high-maintenance, low-maintenance pets. People think "no fur = easy" but noooo. We’re talking bi-weekly baths, ear cleanings, having to buy more food because they need more to keep their body warm, eye boogies everywhere, and yes, sometimes wiping their little butts. Also, they act like toddlers. They’ll sprint through the house at 3 AM, scream for snacks, stand on your head while you're sleeping, and cry for attention.

Running the Philly household

Right now, it’s all about the sphynx crew. They’ve taken over every corner of the house (and my heart). But I wouldn’t say no to another animal one day (piggie or monkey, LOL). If the girls approve, of course. They run the show.

From a fun page to a community

I started the page simply because I was obsessed with Eevee and Mulani, and I wanted a space to document their little lives. I didn’t expect much at first, just a fun way to share their outfits, weird habits, and the everyday chaos that comes with owning sphynx cats.

That TikTok took off because honestly, being a sphynx parent is such a unique experience. The skincare routines, the snuggly personalities, the constant heat-seeking. People love it, and I love seeing how many people relate, laugh, and feel seen by it. It's not only sphynx parents, but all animal parents. Over time, it became more than just a cute page.

It turned into a little community of people who love and celebrate the quirks of these special cats. That’s what keeps me inspired to post, the connection, the laughs, and sharing the real (and ridiculous) parts of sphynx life.

What’s next

I’ve got some new video ideas coming, more “day in the life” stuff, chaotic routines, and maybe even some outfit try-ons for the girls (they’re little fashionistas). I’d love to collaborate with pet brands that truly get how unique sphynx care is.

Also, I won’t lie, I dream of turning their personalities into a comic or cartoon series someday. They’re just too animated not to :)

We thank Crys for sharing her story with us. You can follow Eevee and Mulanni on TikTok.
