Churchill, the Pub Cat of the Old Eagle Club

Meet Churchill, the beloved pub cat of the Old Eagle Club in Camden, London.

Every pub has its regulars, and at the Old Eagle Club in north London, one of the longest-standing patrons is a cat named Churchill.

Churchill showed up at the Old Eagle Club in December 2014 as a tiny kitten after his mom rejected him. A neighbor brought him to the pub, and he quickly found something way better than just a place to stay: a whole community that welcomed him with open arms.

More than a decade later, Churchill is still hanging out in his favorite spot. The crew at the Old Eagle Club said he's got a well-established routine. "He spends his days telling us to open doors, give him treats." And he insists on having his water fresh, cold, and served in a wine bucket if possible. "There's a lot of sleeping, sitting with young ladies, smacking anyone when he's grumpy."

He takes his job seriously, too. When he's not catching some sleep, you can find him monitoring the gardens through a bathroom window, keeping an eye on everything outside, or prowling the neighborhood.

Like many pubs in London, the Old Eagle Club is dog-friendly. Churchill is okay with that, though sometimes it leads to some standoffs, hissing, and growling. But everyone knows the deal: this is Churchill's space, and they've figured out how to keep the peace.

Over the years, Churchill has become part of the Old Eagle Club's identity. His face pops up all over the pub's website, and for a lot of regulars, seeing him sprawled out in his go-to spot is just part of the charm of visiting.

It's hard to imagine the place without him. Churchill probably doesn't think of himself as the pub cat. As far as he's concerned, it's his pub, and the humans are doing a reasonably good job of managing it.
