Animals, According to Moeshit
Artist Moeshit on drawing animals, letting characters change along the way, and the animal comic he wants to make next.
Moeshit's animals don't always end up where they started. A drawing might begin with a form or an idea, then turn into something else entirely along the way. He describes many of them as somewhere between doodles and play-dough, filled with characters that seem to take shape as he draws.
We first spoke with Moeshit last year about his work and the stray dogs in his neighborhood. This time, we came back with a much more focused subject: animals. We asked Moeshit a few questions about the animals he draws.
Drawing animals
I notice that when I draw animals, I generally do so based on their form and what they represent, though I don't do it consciously. Somehow, most of what I draw ends up looking like doodles or play-dough.
When drawings change
This happens all the time; whenever I draw something, it turns into a completely different thing, and that motivates me because it's fun.
Animals with stories
Animals feel like they have very funny lives that resemble ours, and I want to share their humor with more people.
What people notice
I never really know what people notice or miss. I suppose I need to talk with them more about it.
